All Quiet on the Western Front was originally published in German as "Im Westen nichts Neues," in 1929. It was a smash hit and went on to be translated into over twenty-two different languages. It was the basis for the 1930 Academy-Award winning film and the 1979 (made for T.V.) film starring Ernest Borgnine.
