John Galbraith - The Affluent Society
Houghton Mifflin, 1958. Hardcover. 8vo. Reddish-brown cloth binding. First edition, twelfth printing. Book is in very good condition. Light rubbing along edges of boards. Clean pages. No markings. Dust jacket is in good condition, is missing a chunk along the head of the spine, chipped at forecorners and is stained along upper front edge (see photos). The Affluent Society is a critical appraisal of American society in the nineteen-fifties (when it was at perhaps its industrial apogee) by a leading economist. The country is criticized as much for its failure to best the Soviets in the space-race as it is for its materialistic impulses.
