New York: John Gray, 1859. First edition, first printing. Hardcover. 16mo. Navy blue cloth binding. 139 pp. An unprepossessing but solidly bound copy. Covers are scuffed along periphery and joints, bumped at forecorners. The rear cover has an irregular black/blue toning gradient (whether by staining or sunfading I can't ascertain). Foxing and smudging marks on yellow endpapers. Mild dampstain undulation to first few pages, and smudging/general wear throughout. All text legible. It is Wells's contention that the Lost Tribes of Israel were just the Goths that overran Europe (today's Anglo-Saxons); this theory he propounds in verse form with Miltonian zest.
