Robert Heinlein - Starship Troopers
New York: G.P. Putnam's Sons, 1959. First edition, sixth printing. Hardcover. 8vo. 309 pp. Brown cloth binding. This is an unprepossessing ex-library copy, which circumstance is adduced comprehensively and unabashedly with card pocket, stamp, smudge, soil, and other points of imperfection within. Upper front corner of front free endpaper, lower forecorner of rear free endpaper are both clipped, the latter very slightly; smudging, 3mm circular blotch marking along textblock fore-edge; a like marking again on the upper portion of flyleaf; general wear to edges of boards and pages. The dust jacket, however, is beautiful (not counting its flaps) having just a tiny patch of fuzzy excoriation along the lower spine and a faint patchwork of corrugated rimple lines here and there but retaining its color and composure very well underneath its heavy-duty library mylar. The jacket was at one time tethered to the outside covers with pieces of scotch tape which though removed have left shadows in their likeness thereupon.
If there is a suggestion of fatigue in the present volume let it testify to the enduring popularity of Heinlein's magnum opus (no, Stranger in a Strange Land is not a better book; why would you even think that?) and one of the all-time great contributions to the science fiction genre.
