Stephen W. Hawking - A Brief History of Time: From the Big Bang to Black Holes
New York: Bantam Books, 1988. First American edition, first printing. Hardcover. 8vo. Black cloth binding. Viii,198pp. Introduction by Carl Sagan.
It must be confessed that this is an unprepossessing copy of Mr. Hawking's modern science classic though in any case certainly not any uglier than its author. Minor wear evident on the edges of covers and textblock. Former owner's name in black ink at the top of the front pastedown page, this punctuated with a constellation of unobtrusively small spatter markings on the front endpaper (which, I'm sure you will agree, reconciles itself to the present astronomical theme almost too well). But don't worry, our former owner has atoned for this messy mistake by adding some helpful annotative underscoring throughout the work and was sensible enough--this is a smart person kind of book after all--to cast these amateur editorial strokes in tasteful neon pink. (Don't pretend that you wouldn't have done the same.) Dust jacket, meanwhile, is very nice with perhaps a whiff of incipient rimpling at the extreme outer periphery.
